Anya Taylor-Joy came to the Emmys dressed for a big evening. The Queen’s Gambit actress wore a white Christian Dior Haute Couture dress with a dramatic yellow shawl. She wore her hair up in an elegant bun.
Tayl0r-Joy is up for Best Lead Actress, Limited Series. Her series The Queen’s Gambit is up for Best Limited Series.
Taylor-Joy’s fashion moment at the Emmys comes after she and stylist Law Roach went all out for the Venice Film Festival. Taylor-Joy channeled vintage Barbie in a custom Dior dress with a matching beret.
Taylor-Joy spoke to ELLE earlier this year about how acting saved her after a childhood of being bullied. “It just really pushed me,” she said. “Much the same way as Beth needed chess, I needed acting. I needed to believe in a place where I could be valued and appreciated, and actually have something to contribute rather than constantly feeling like, ‘What is wrong with me, and why do I not fit in?’”
She also weighed in on the idea of a second season of The Queen’s Gambit and whether she’d do it. “It would be silly of me to go, ‘There’s never going to be a second series,’ and then I’m 40, and Scott’s like, ‘Yo, how do you feel about this? You want to go back?’” she said. When imagining what’s next for her character Beth, she said, “I hope she starts doing things for her own enjoyment. I’d like Beth to pick up Benny and spend some time with him in Russia, just the two of them being snobby intellectuals together, and I hope she has a Bowie phase.”
