Kate Middleton Makes Rare Personal Comment on the Murder of Sabina Nessa

Kate Middleton shares a Twitter account with Prince William for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. When the Duchess signs off on a personal tweet directly from her, she writes “C” at the end for her more formal name, Catherine. On Friday, Kate broke her silence on the murder of 28-year-old London primary school teacher Sabina Nessa.

“I am saddened by the loss of another innocent young woman on our streets,” she wrote. “My thoughts are with Sabina’s family and friends, and all those who have been affected by this tragic event.”

It is rare for Kate to send a tweet directly, but the Sabina Nessa case has shocked the country and comes not long after the murder of another young woman, Sarah Everard, in Brixton Hill of South London.

Nessa was murdered last week in an area nearby to the site of Everard’s murder as Nessa walked to her local pub to meet a friend. Her body was found later that same evening near a community center in a local park.

“Sabina’s journey should have taken just over five minutes but she never made it to her destination,” Detective Inspector Joe Garrity said in a press release Thursday. “We know the community are rightly shocked by this murder—as are we—and we are using every resource available to us to find the individual responsible.”

Kate paid tribute to Everard at her memorial site in March, and it caused some controversy as the vigil was additionally a site of protest. It was eventually revealed that Everard was murdered by a member of the Metropolitan Police force.

“She wanted to pay her respects to Sarah and her family,” a royal source said at the time. “She remembers what it felt like to walk around London at night.”

The Duchess also sent a personal letter to Everard’s family. Nessa’s case is still unfolding, though two men have been arrested in connection with the crime and the Metro Police have released CCTV images of a third man connected to Nessa’s death. They have been asking the public’s assistance in locating him.
