Pregnant man emoji set to appear on smartphones soon

A

pregnant man emoji will start appearing on smart phones soon in a bid to make them “more gender inclusive”.

The symbol is on a list of new emojis released by the Unicode Consortium and can now be used by companies to design their own version.

There will also be a pregnant person emoji to join the existing pregnant woman symbol which has been in existence since 2016.

Emoji reference site Emojipedia said the new symbols “may be used for representation by trans men, non-binary people, or women with short hair”.

It even says they can be used in “a tongue-in-cheek way” to show someone with “a very full stomach caused by eating a large meal”.

The site says “These emojis have been approved to make the emoji keyboard more consistent and gender inclusive, in line with the same steps we saw for other emojis in recent years.”

The addition of the 37 new symbols takes the number of emojis to 3,633 and are expected to start appearing at the end of this year.
