Blinken Meets With Afghan Women After Taliban Takeover

During a trip to Qatar, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with a group of Afghan women who are advocating for human rights after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.

“We had a dream that Afghanistan would become within the next 10 years, a country that’s a source of high-tech technology, rather than a country of terror and war. We don’t know what happened three weeks ago, but we just know that everybody’s scared.” “The story you’ve already told by what you’re doing about the importance of girls and women engaging in science, in technology, education more broadly, that sent a very powerful message all around the world — well beyond Afghanistan. And I know you’re going to find ways to continue to do that. We’re committed to supporting you and helping you as you’re making transitions. We’re also committed to doing everything we can to help people who are still in Afghanistan, and are looking for a different future.”
